November 5 - November 11, 2000 - Yet more shots of beautiful Switzerland.
Below: the the Appensel region, which still looks very traditionally "Swiss." Also, shots of the Alps from Flims.

It's getting cold!
Snow-capped mountains
and an icy river

Traditional street, house
(Isn't this getting boring?
It really is ALL gorgeous.)

November 22 and 23, 2000 We drive from Zurich to Lausanne, Switzerland and Montreaux, Switzerland,
(ultimately on our way to the south of France.)

(Where we happily stayed.)

One of the COOLEST things we have seen:

Chateau du Chillon, a 12th century castle near Lausanne.
Lord Byron wrote about it,
and actually carved his name on a pillar inside.

where Bonivard was chained for 4 years and Lord Byron gained inspiration.

November 24 through December 1, 2000 We continue on to Nice. Not many pictures the first few days. Rain, rain, rain! We loved our hotel, though, so we spent some time there studying, working, talking. Oh, and we both had LOTS of French practice.
pic
Hotel Durante ... we recommend it!
pic
We had a main room and a kitchenette.

November 25, 2000 Heather's Birthday. We drive to an old town called "Mougin." We take no pictures. Oh well!
November 29, 2000 A day trip into Monaco. We saw the changing of the guard at the palace.
Didn't see any royalty, but we saw a lot of expensive housing!

Cool statue in the park. Title, "Invitation."

Cap Ferrat, on the way to Monaco.
It was warm and gorgeous!

December 1, 2000 We leave the south of France (much to Heather's dismay!) We drive up to Beaune, France in the Burgundy wine region. Heather is bored in the car.

David likes to drive.
pic
VERY, VERY bored.
December 2-3, 2000 Beaune, France ... and old French stuff near Dijon. Of course we tasted wines in Beaune. The days were cloudy and not picture-worthy really. The landscape, though, was covered with vineyard after vineyard as far as the eye could see.

Must see: Old hospital courtyard
in Beaune: Hotel Dieu.
