January, 2001 - February 2001 5 days in Tokyo. We packed a lot in, the weather was pretty good, my Japanese came back no problem ... We had a ball!

We stayed in Tokyo ... in Shinjuku right near the train station. This is a view of one side of the station at night.

Harajuku... where all the kids hang out on Sundays. They also happen to dress in outrageous costumes. Some goth chicks?

A Japanese curiosity: gift shops in the airport that sell gifts from any destination you may have just COME FROM, so you can take something regional home from your trip. (An alibi shop?)
January, 2001 We leave Tokyo for 5 days in Australia. We happened to arrive in Sydney, Australia on the weekend of a national holiday: Australia Day. It also happened to be Chinese New Year. So, there were a lot of festivals going on, people out and about, and boats in the harbor. We even saw some fireworks!
