January, 2001 - February 2001 5 days in Tokyo. We packed a lot in, the weather was pretty good, my Japanese came back no problem ... We had a ball!
We stayed in Tokyo ... in Shinjuku right near the train station. This is a view of one side of the station at night.	Another night view...	Harajuku... where all the kids hang out on Sundays. They also happen to dress in outrageous costumes. Some goth chicks?	Cute...
The latest in fashion (no kidding!) "Dirty" medical wear and bandages. Weird man.	Check out the soles on these shoes.	White leg warmers are REALLY in there right now. (Can we say "Flash Dance" or "Fame"?)	David in front of a shop.
We did make it to something traditional: the Meiji Shrine.	It had just snowed...	but it was warming...	so we had a gorgeous day!
We even saw some early blossoms.	A Japanese curiosity: gift shops in the airport that sell gifts from any destination you may have just COME FROM, so you can take something regional home from your trip. (An alibi shop?)
January, 2001 We leave Tokyo for 5 days in Australia. We happened to arrive in Sydney, Australia on the weekend of a national holiday: Australia Day. It also happened to be Chinese New Year. So, there were a lot of festivals going on, people out and about, and boats in the harbor. We even saw some fireworks!
